This market will resolve to "Yes" if Google Maps displays "Gulf of America" as the label for the body of water currently known as the "Gulf of Mexico" for the majority of users within the United States by February 28, 2025, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. Changes which appear only in experimental features, beta versions, or subnational regional variants, will not qualify for a “Yes” resolution. If both "Gulf of America" and "Gulf of Mexico" are used to label the body of water, this will qualify for a “Yes” resolution. The resolution source will be Google Maps (maps.google.com) however a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
"You guys are going to be surprised how slow GNIS is"
i am gonna be so surprised at how slow GNIS is
gg 😂 I bet against Trump and got rekt
I expected way more bureaucracy and pencil pushing 😂
LOL SOMEONE DISPUTE IT
Update: gulf of America is now in the machine readable version of GNIS. Gg all.
I have a vacation in March in Mexico, in the Mexican Caribbean. I will eat lobster and shrimp. If for some reason I lose my thousand dollars invested, nothing will happen. I will be happy on the beach because I made some gringos angry. MEXICAN GULF. The bet is worth it just for that. I don't understand what satisfaction it gives to the United States that the Gulf is called the Gulf of America. If it is only valid in the United States, in the rest of the world it will continue to be the Mexican Gulf.
dude nobody cares what you do with your money. You might as well not throw it away.
We'll talk in a week when my shares are worth x3
I care, Polymarket is a big family. I want to know what my Poly friends will eat
Enjoy your seafood from the Gulf of America!
yall tweakin
That they are going to change it is a fact, but if they don't change it this week the price should be 50% and 50%
Why should that be?
Because the bet we are making is that Google Maps will make the change to its maps by March 28, as the final date approaches, the bet should be more expensive.
just be grateful we have people like daizox on here. He is needed.
In a week I will be able to sell my shares x3 thanks
I am going to bet all my life savings on this one, YOLO wish me luck. Do or Die
F
Your life saving $9💰
I am homeless now.
Seems a lot of people here have a logical fallacy thinking that just because Google is going to change it, doesn't mean it will be in the next 18 days. It has already been 3 weeks. Even on a 80% chance it will happen you are losing money.
I expect a change this week
Google said they’d change it “effective immediate” after the GNIS change… I hope they take longer but I fear the “Yes” team has won
no logical fallacy you can just literally compare how long google took last time something like this happened ( spoiler: it was 2-3 days)
lol why are you all focused on GNIS instead of the BGN 🤔
bahahaha nvm I just saw the BGN approved the change, then the GNIS follow. so now it's 100% whether google will update within 20 days. Good gamble!! :D
It's not 100%. Where does it say Google will change it in the next 18 days? it could be March 1 for all we know.
yeah of course it's not 100%. They said they'll change when the BGN and GNIS would be changed, so, like I said, it's now a gamble of how fast Google Maps will implement the change. I'm still keeping my position and will probably add a few more :D
im sorry you lost your money. cut your loses
People don't understand that the order, the official signing of the presidential decree was made yesterday... since yesterday the secretary was given 30 days to make it "official" it's not an SMS, it's a process... and of course when will Google Maps change? I feel that people don't understand how computer systems work.
GNIS updated, it's gg
check it yourself
Alreadychanged in GNIS. [link removed]
Per Secretarial Order 3423, the Gulf of Mexico has been renamed to the Gulf of America. The display map for the Gazetteer application is in the process of being updated to reflect this name change.
ez 25x money
That would be 0
My uncle works at Google and he told me that Google Maps will show the Gulf of America on March 6th, we win guys haha
In this case my uncle will have to fight your friend's dog to death.
Why is it at 96%? seems dramatically overprised. It isnt changed yet and no official confirmation it will happen in the next 18 days. It has been weeks since Trump executed his order.
Maybe they know some new informations
Today Trump signed a presidential order to rename the Gulf, the Secretary has 30 days to come to an agreement with the GNIS, they meet, decide the name change, and based on that Google Maps would have to update its maps, how long will it take to be official? and appear on the maps? It is not known... apart from that, how long will it take Google to update its maps for users in the United States? It is not known as time goes by the "NO" will be worth more and more
Nah, just FOMO. There is no news on it.
Since when does a company like Google have to abide by it? they are free to chose how they present their maps I am as good as sure.
According to Google, it will follow official sources to decide the names in this case the GNIS
[link removed] It still appears as the Gulf of Mexico in the watermark, and Google Maps has still not updated. I think it will take a little longer than those 18 days, and more so since the President of Mexico sent a formal letter to Google so that they do not change it. An interesting market, no doubt, may the best win.
In 7 days I will sell them to you at triple the price
Well, unfortunately, it appears as if “Yes” is right… if you look at the GNIS database, it already shows Gulf of America… and Google did say that once this change was made, they would reflect it on their maps
GNIS CONTINUES SHOWING THE GULF OF MEXICO AS THE GULF OF MEXICO [link removed] LET'S AGREE THAT GOOGLE WILL FOLLOW THE DECISIONS OF THE GNIS TIK TOK TIK TOK HAHA
Wdym? Its literally already “Gulf of America”
The bet is if the name changes in the water frame, it remains Gulf of Mexico so far
Next February 13, GNIS has a meeting to change several names, but nothing appears about changing the name Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America fountain [link removed].[link removed] O
Has it ocurred to you that the name change is not on the agenda for that meeting because it's already in the system? [link removed]
FUD officially OFFICIALLY, it continues to appear in GNIS as GULF OF MEXICO AND ON GOOGLE MAPS TOO. At the moment the result is ''NO''
This really should be dropping back down to 80%. Nothing has changed. GNIS still not updated. See my proof earlier.
What did I miss? Why did “Yes” shoot up again?
I have the same question
They are going to have a meeting and surely they are going to change the name but it will not be updated so quickly for at least a month
If we are guided by the agenda, they do not plan to vote for the name change, the next meeting is February 13
